A.O. GERBER ALL I'VE KNOWN
Ahead of the release of her debut album, Another Place To Need (22nd May), the ever-rising A.O. Gerber has brought our attention back to third single ‘All I’ve Known’ with some new mesmerizing visuals. Designed and produced by Mertcan Mertbilek, the graphics are akin to the style of the 17th century Dutch Masters, who used still life to display great skill with light, textures and oftentimes as a commentary on the mortality of all things. We too see this in the music video, hinted at with the flies and other insects crawling across the fruit and also in the pensive lyrics of Gerber, “Lately I’ve been sinking stones to find out where they’ll land / I won’t ever get to see them but it’s a game I can understand.” The song’s own sonic textures, with plentiful shadow and light, are introduced by the gently haunting guitar and celestial vocals. What we love is the progression from this dreamy state to an ever-bolder recording, until we reach that indie-rock crescendo in which Gerber repeats that key phrase, “it’s all I’ve known”, as we move further and further into psychedelic chaos. If this track has you craving some live music, then be sure to tune into A.O. Gerber’s live stream for Hand In Hive’s Lock In Sessions with CALM - the Campaign Against Living Miserably at 6:30pm today. - Hannah Thacker
